Cluster technology is intended to provide much higher availability than would normally be possible with a single stand-alone computer system. Tru64 clustering is the most advanced form of cluster technology currently available. Cluster technology is very complex and requires that the problem solver examine log data from more than one system. For example, in a cluster environment it is possible to provide a service on one node (system) in the cluster and in the event that that node fails, the service is automatically transferred to another node. Indeed Tru64 clusters provide a number of algorithms to control fail over activity such as round robin, preferred node etc.. In order to provide customer support for cluster systems the problem solver must be able to install, configure and diagnose problems for this complex environment. Tru64 clusters use an extended file system where the file system is served by one node and shared among the rest of the cluster nodes which act as clients. From the user perspective, the file system is globally available throughout the cluster.
