32 Fortran programs communicating via mailboxes constituted an application that would allow users to manipulate data in a ordering database using the touch tone pads on telephones from remote locations. The OpenVMS/VAX system communicated over a 9600 baud serial line with a PC front-end system that contained a voice enunciating board. Using the Vax Executable Software Translator (VEST) tool, I translated all 32 Fortran programs for use under the OpenVMS/Alpha operating system. This also required the development of a workaround to avoid a system service bug in the OpenVMS/Alpha code.
